Cyd Rosen-Herrmann
Ceramic Artist
My name is Cyd Rosen-Herrmann and I have been working in clay for a good part of my adult
life. I attended different art schools throughout my earlier years and finally received my
BFA from Parsons School of Design in NYC in the 1980's. After I graduated I spent eight months at The Banff Centre For Fine Arts in Alberta, Canada. This was a great experience because I was given my own studio and the freedom to experiment in clay or any other medium that I
desired. I taught an adult ceramic course at the centre and showed some of my work in one of
the galleries in town. When I returned to the States I decided to go into an entirely different field and stopped doing ceramics for a very long time. About five years ago I was reintroduced to
clay and I regained my lost love for this art medium.
I now maintain a small ceramic studio in NYC. I specialize in one of a kind teapots. These forms
are thrown on a wheel and altered. I also do a variety of other forms that are utilitarian and
painted using the technique known as Majolica along with commercial glazes. I fire my electric
kiln to cone 06 which is considered a low temperature but fine for objects to be used for eating
and drinking.
