Walter Kenul
Musician and Mixed-Media Artist
Walter Kenul has long been an accomplished musician, singer and songwriter.
For the past twenty years he has been working on a series of portraits which are cut from steel.
The use of found steel panels and glass from the East River have given way to some unusual
characters.
His earlier works were a tribute to our great native American Indians: strong faces, powerful
images. His newer pieces are portraits of people he might know, as in jazz musician Fred Ho or
from a photograph of a face that moves him.
The use of color, found glass, rivets, etc. add that much more to the composition. They are truly
intriguing.
His latest piece, entitled "Goddess", emerged from the bent metal on her own accord.
Surrounded by broken glass flowers she captivates your soul.
