Multimedia Theatre Artists
Kari Margolis and Tony Brown are Co-Founders/Artistic Directors of Margolis Brown’s Adaptor
Theater, established in NYC in 1984. Margolis and Brown have created 15 evening-length original productions that have toured nationally and to Barcelona, Singapore, Berlin, London and throughout Mexico and Canada. After five years as artists-in-residence at the contemporary
arts space BACA Downtown NY, Margolis and Brown established an independent performance
space and multimedia center in Downtown Brooklyn in 1987. In 1993, the team relocated to the
Twin Cities where over a twelve-year stay they became leaders in the Twin Cities arts
community. The team is presently building an international theatre training and research center
in Sullivan County New York and continues to tour its original productions worldwide.
Ms. Margolis has developed a unique physical approach to actor training and has run a private
international actor training program since 1982. She served as Faculty at the University of Minnesota where she played a major role in re-designing the B.A. Theater Program.
Ms. Margolis conducts master classes, lecture demonstrations and residencies nationally and
internationally. She is a published author, a Master Teacher for the Kennedy Center in
Washington D.C., and a Site-Reporter for the National Endowment for the Arts. Kari also teaches
integrated fitness classes privately and to small groups.
Mr. Brown designed and managed a multimedia re-grant program for the NYS Council on the
Arts and ran the company’s editing and recording studios in New York. He was lead consultant
for the design of the new multimedia studio for the University of Minnesota where he also taught
multimedia and performance. Mr. Brown is an accomplished composer, video artist and actor. He won several awards for his featured performance in the company's AMERICAN SAFARI
which was voted 'Best Stage Production" 2002, by City Pages Minneapolis.
