Metalsmithing: Jewelry and Housewares
Like so many children, McFlashpants was conceived during the New York City blackout.
Seriously. When the power died, I had no food, no water, no money, and no idea how to take
care of myself without my giant urban pacifier. So, I changed.
I moved to upstate New York, where I lose power daily, never see my friends, and am still afraid
of the dark. But it’s better, because I’m tapped back into the cycle of life. And now, I can take
care of myself without a deli across the street. The learning curve was huge, but now, I can
grow and preserve my own food, raise chickens and goats, compost even my son’s diapers, and
recycle to the point of ridiculous.
Which is where McFlashpants comes in. It's a collection of jewelry and housewares made
entirely from recycled materials. The Eat With Your Hands series is devoted to breathing new
life into unwanted silverware. Living Jewelry takes that idea one step further, by putting actual
life into unwanted silverware. And Green Pieces melts the scraps down to be recast as puzzle
pieces.
All I want to do is close the loop and still make people happy with pretty things.
