Ann Therese Patrone
Mixed Media Artist
Ann Therese Patrone melds various art forms in her creative process. She uses painting,
photography, fiber and drawings in her works and creations. Many of her works are three
dimensional, using found objects that are organic or spiritual in essence. Ann Therese draws her inspiration from nature, religious icons, and the written word. In her work, she often uses
images of animals, bones, shells and natural forms as models and materials to be catalysts for ideas and symbolic representations. Her process involves creating new meanings and evoking
questions rather than stated ideas or facts. Ann Therese’s process is driven by a quest to imbue
or draw out of found objects interpretations other than what is commonly perceived. Any object
or animal that speaks to her or needs a voice to be heard is a source for inspiration.
A native of Brooklyn, NY, Ann Therese obtained both a Bachelors in Studio Art and a Masters in Art Education at Brooklyn College. She has studied with leading artists, Lee Bontecou, Seiji
Saito and Jan Carlisle. She continued her studies in the early eighties at the Brooklyn Museum
of Art.
In addition to exhibiting in group shows starting with Sotheby’s Annual Exhibition in 1995-1998, Ann Therese also presently exhibits as a member of the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition
and has done so for the past ten years.
Ann Therese Patrone is also a writer and recipient of grants furthering arts education in the NYC
Public Schools. She has implemented grants in the arts of weaving, ballroom dancing,
stagecraft, and architectural design. The Center for Arts Education has been one of the
providers for some of these grants.
Currently, Ann Therese is working as an arts liaison for NYC’s museums, cultural institutions and the Department of Education. As an educator, she finds the teaching of art is an ever
amazing experience entailing the assisting of students in the exploration of process and
discovery.
