Diana Mae Potts
Exploring Reality and Imagination Through Art

Originally from New Jersey, Diana Mae Potts has been living in Pennsylvania for the last year.
Although she has played in many media, her current materials of choice are graphite pencil on
paper (or in a journal), and colored pencil.

A love of nature and the many things people have made with their hands and ingenuity are the
source of much of Diana’s work.  A rich imagination is the bridge from where things are seen
and put on paper or canvas or even textiles.  Her motto is "exploring reality and imagination
through art": she seeks to draw things and learn as much as is possible about the world around
her so that they can be used for imagination later. This is an ongoing process.

Lately the work has more to do with exploring reality and its vast amount of forms.  Exploring
eBay and going to yard sales and curio and antique shops with affordable stuff is where much of
her recent subject matter has come from.  The pieces shown are examples of this kind of artistic
process, and are from a body of work of "Twenty Five Views of a Japanese Samurai Doll".

At Bernards High School in New Jersey in 1972, Diana won the New Jersey State Scholastic Art
Award for her piece "Glowing Sunrise", which was exhibited at the New Jersey State Museum.
In 1973 she won the Epstein's Gold Key Award for an embossed linocut called "Barns" which
was exhibited at the Morris County Museum.

The most meaningful artistic endeavor for her was creating a submission for the World Trade
Center Site Memorial Competition which can be viewed at:

Other areas of exploration have been textile design with linoleum block printing.  She has made
three large needlepoint tapestries of her own design, which were shown at the Rhinebeck Crafts
Fair in
Rhinebeck, New York in 1985.

To view more of Diana’s artwork, you can visit her online via her blog, where she posts ongoing
art; her website; or eBay.  She enjoys showing and selling art online and interacting with other
artists.
