Laurie Stuart
Feltmaker

Laurie Stuart has been working as a fiber artist for over 30 years.  Starting with batik while still
in high school, she discovered weaving and spinning while earning a BA in Studio Art from
Douglass College in New Brunswick, NJ.  As her day job as publisher of The River Reporter
moved into focus and time with the drop spindle, spinning wheel and loom became more
scarce, Laurie discovered felt making, the art of making textiles and clothing without spinning,
weaving or sewing.

Felt is a transformative alive medium and through it Laurie can work with colors, textures and
form.  Her work, which evokes a deep connection to spirit and ecology, ranges from one-of-a-
kind cards, sculptural objects and containers to clothing and bags.

Laurie participates in area shows, is available for workshops, and welcomes commissioned work.
